WRITEKIDS! Writing Contest Rules

WriteKids! Writing Contest is produced by WriteKids. Please read the official contest rules below, then use the “Enter Now” tab to submit (upload) your story AND entry form. Please do NOT forget to send the entry form, completed and signed, along with your story. Stories submitted by mail are also acceptable. Submissions are now open for our 2020 Writing Contest. We will accept submissions until September 15, 2020.

Prompt

Describe how you would ideally spend your first day after COVID-19 is gone forever.

For example: Think about what you missed the most because of COVID-19 restrictions. Who would you visit first? Would you go to see your favorite singer in concert or attend a sporting event live? Eat a meal at your favorite restaurant? Go shopping with your friends?…

Eligibility & Entry Guidelines
• Only one entry per person will be accepted.
• Only single author stories qualify (no co-authored stories).
• Stories can be fact or fiction.
• Any failure to adhere to these Contest Rules may result in disqualification.
• No purchase is necessary.

Word Count (No exceptions)
• Stories word count range must not exceed 1,500 words.
• Text must be printed or written legibly or typed.

Official Entry Form
• Each entry must include the official WriteKids! Writing Contest Entry Form, with the required signature of a parent/guardian (and, if appropriate, the optional signature of the sponsoring teacher), confirming that the story is original.
• Entries will be judged on originality, creative expression, content, and grammar. All decisions of the judges are final and not subject to appeal or review.

Awards
•First place winner will receive a $50 award. Second-place winner will receive a $30 award, and three third place winners will each win a $20 award.
• Winners will be notified by email. Each winner’s story will be posted on WriteKids.org.
• All entrants will be awarded a certificate of participation.

Return of Entries
• The Contest administrators will make every effort (but are not required) to return entries with corrections per California State Standards and suggestions.
